Blue King Brown won the Musicoz Awards for Best Alternative Artist and the APRA Songwriter’s Awards in 2005. Musicoz also exposed BKB to a national television audience for the first time, when they performed at the 2005 Musicoz Award ceremony. They have since gone on to top the indie charts in Australia and have have scored a spot on The Live Earth Festival.

After a successful launch of their debut album Stand Up, and sold out shows for the past six months nationally, Blue King Brown are going global…with a little help from technology, a fired up USA based management team and a lot of km’s on the road.

Blue King Brown drew a lucky card when their film clip for ‘Water’, made for $200, was featured on the front page of You Tube earlier this month, exposing the band to a massive international viewer ship. The You Tube exposure has resulted in alot of international interest, the timing could not have been better....

Blue King Brown have just returned from a tour of Japan where they have recently signed a record deal and released the Japanese edition of Stand up. BKB are building strong in Japan, kicked along by their critically acclaimed live shows, they return to Japan later in the year to perform at the famous SUMMERSONIC festival along side the likes of Gwen Stefani, Bloc Party, Black Eyed Peas + more. More international touring plans are brewing for what is set to be a big year for BKB.

In July they hit the stage in Sydney for Live Earth, which is expected to attract over two billion viewers worldwide. Joining Crowded House, Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly and more to draw attention to the world’s widening environmental crisis.

“There is a movement that is taking place right now, it’s a global movement that has finally hit the mainstream. It's a realisation of the impacts of our everyday actions that we can so easily take for granted. It’s a reality check and it’s a positive step forward in so many ways. The more people involved in the movement the closer we are to bettering all of our lives now and for the future. We have been strong supporters of this cause for a long time and participating in an event like this is bringing more and more awareness to the issue.” says BKB member Carlo Santone.

Blue King Brown walk their talk; they are passionate about world issues and will also perform as part of the regional zero seven MAKE POVERTY HISTORY concerts in July, and have been invited to perform in celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to Australia in June. In August the band will grace the stage at Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass festival, being ex-Byron locals they are looking forward to this one!

Underscored by the fiery vocals and political lyrics of Natalie Paapaa, you can hear the afro-beat, reggae, world and Latin influence, but the band has created a distinctly original sound. A refreshing take on roots music, uniquely Australian yet with an unquestionable international feel.

The band’s beginnings are with Carlo Santone and Natalie Paapaa - the two founding and songwriting members of the band. Their sound, attitude and approach has come from years of playing music on the streets, performing day in day out for years, developing a sound and vibe as percussionists that would inevitably form the foundation for Blue King Brown.

Front woman, Natalie Paapaa, delivers and empowers, stating - “It’s as much about the music as it is about the message.”

This is music for the times, Blue King Brown took their stance with their first single ‘WATER’, releasing the punchy track with strong lyrics and heavy groove from their debut EP in 2005, the track was quickly added to high rotation on Australian national radio station - Triple J. This song also went on to win an APRA songwriters award and the Best Alternative Artist Award in the 2005 National Musicoz Awards  and an AIR Chart award in 2006.

The band backed up their first EP release with a tough debut album titled ‘STAND UP’, independently released in October 2006 through their own label, ROOTS LEVEL RECORDS. The album has received mass critical acclaim with ‘come and check your head’, the first single off the album hitting hard!

“The revolution will be televised, dance-hall style.” - Tsunami Magazine

“Never has a lesson/protest song been so infectiously delivered.” - The Drum Media.

The track went to high rotation on radio Triple J, also making the hottest 100 list for 2006. STAND UP was a Feature Album on Triple J and also received a J Award Nomination 2006 – Triple J’s Australian Album of the year. Along with national radio, the album has been a staple on country wide community stations. With 3 single releases all gaining solid airplay, this strong debut album from BKB sets the stage for what is destined to be a big future for the band.

“It was almost as if the whole building itself was grooving to their entrancing beats and inspiring lyrics. Blue King Brown provided what they do best, transporting listeners into another world…” -
